Are you looking to become a Mental Health First Aider ®?

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a training course which teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue. You can find more about the course here.

Birmingham Mind’s accredited MHFA England Instructor Members are approved to deliver MHFA England courses. The course costs £325 per person.

Individual Mental Health First Aid Course Bookings

Our open access Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses are ideal for individuals who want to become a Mental Health First Aider®. You can book a single place or multiple places for a small group.

These courses are particularly well suited to smaller businesses, charities, community interest companies (CICs) and individuals. They are open to anyone aged 18 and over.

All of our courses are delivered in person, in partnership with the Aston Villa Foundation and take place at Villa Park, Aston. Class sizes are kept to a maximum of 16 participants, creating a supportive and interactive learning environment.

You must attend all sessions to qualify as a Mental Health First Aider®.

Mental Health First Aid in Your Workplace or Community

Birmingham Mind delivers Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training for workplaces and community organisations, either in person or online.

We can tailor course dates and times to suit your organisation, including weekend delivery where required.

Courses are available for groups of 8 to 16 delegates, making them ideal for teams looking to build confidence in supporting mental health at work or within their community.

As an MHFAider® you will be able to:

  • Recognise those that may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention
  • Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other supports
  • Practise active listening and empathy
  • Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma
  • Have access to the MHFAider Support App®
  • The opportunity to be part of the Association of Mental Health First Aiders – and inclusive community and the only of its kind with a collective power to raise awareness and understanding of mental health stigma.
  • Know how to access a dedicated text service provided by Shout and ongoing learning opportunities with MHFA England

Whether you choose our open access course or specific workplace training, everyone who completes this course becomes a qualified MHFAider® and will receive;

  • A hard copy workbook to support their learning throughout the course
  • A digital manual to refer to whenever they need it​ after completing the course
  • A wallet-sized reference card with the Mental Health First Aid action plan​
  • A digital MHFAider® certificate
  • Access to the new MHFAider Support App® for three years
  • The opportunity to be part of the Association of Mental Health First Aiders – and inclusive community and the only of its kind with a collective power to raise awareness and understanding of mental health stigma.
