Location: Various locations across Birmingham and Solihull. Team meetings and training will be carried out at Albert House, 92 Edward Street, Birmingham, B1 2RA

When:   You are required to commit to supporting a minimum of 4 Fundraising events or presentations per year.  An event could last from an hour to a day, but we would always agree any time commitment in advance. This role is flexible to childcare and study needs of the volunteer.

Role Description

Role Details

Working as part of the Fundraising Team, you will  be supporting and attending fundraising events, hosted by members of the public in aid of Birmingham Mind.

Tasks

You will be involved in the following opportunities;

  • Attending cheque presentations for individuals who have completed fundraising challenges, or corporate partners that have donated to Birmingham Mind.
  • Joining awareness raising events. This could include talking to people about fundraising, or Birmingham Mind and signposting people to our services.
  • Being at Fundraising events on behalf of Birmingham Mind, such as where a fundraiser is holding a charity football game or community fete to talk to people about the impact of fundraising and thank people for their support.
  • Support with the planning of and attending Fundraising events that Birmingham Mind run directly, such as our annual Mental Elf Fun Run.
  • Have a participation role at an event, such as handing out medals, helping when people sign up or setting up the stalls.

Skills Required

Candidates will have:

  • A reasonable level of English language to allow you to communicate effectively with our fundraisers.
  • To demonstrate empathy and kindness in how you interact with people. You will be representing our charity and, in a public, facing role.
  • Have a friendly, welcoming personality which puts people at their ease.
  • A willingness to speak in front of others about Fundraising and Birmingham Mind.
  • Be passionate about challenging the stigma that still exists around mental health.
  • Be confident in using your personal networks to promote your role as Fundraising Ambassador.
  • Be trustworthy, patient and enjoy being part of our Fundraising Team.
  • We welcome those with lived or living experience of mental health difficulties.
  • We encourage those with lived experience to talk about this where they are comfortable doing so, but this is not a requirement.
  • Some experience or knowledge of fundraising would be desirable. This could be fundraising yourself, in the workplace or within your community.

  • In role training from fundraising staff

Access to Birmingham Mind training is both online and face to face.

Support

The Fundraising Team will offer you support in being an Ambassador and ensure that you feel confident and supported throughout your time as a Fundraising Ambassador.

This will include;

  • Regular ongoing support to answer any questions or share experiences. You will have a designated contact within Birmingham Mind.
  • Planned Progress Chats to reflect on events and activities
  • Opportunity to meet with other volunteers at events and meetings within Birmingham Mind

Expenses

Any expenses incurred when travelling by train, tram, bus or private car will be reimbursed.

We always agree this in advance with you before any travel arrangements are made.

In addition, cost of lunch is reimbursed when volunteering for 4 hours or more (where refreshments are not provided). This is up to the value of £4.
