On the 14th July 2017, 15 of us from HS2 Ltd decided to use our company community day to help paint the upstairs space at the Beechcroft Office in Erdington.
We all arrived ready and raring to go at 9am and set about getting the area ready to decorate. The staff at Beechcroft had kindly masked the area for us already and removed any furniture so all we had to do was laydown the ground sheets which saved us a lot of time and hassle. We had a big job ahead of us as we had committed ourselves to painting the entire upstairs landing/entrance hall, this meant walls, 11 doors and skirting which all needed a fresh coat of paint and a spruce up.
After being welcomed by the staff at the centre and being given an induction along with a safety brief, we grabbed some tea & coffee and we were ready to get started.
We got the painting schedule out and armed with our rollers, we set about painting the walls. We made really good time and managed to finish the wall ahead of schedule, so we then moved on to the doors and the skirting.
By the end of the day we had managed to complete what we had set out to do and even had time to paint one of the downstairs door and ledge.
When we stood back and looked at what we had achieved, we were all really proud of all the hard work we had put in, the upstairs area looked great.
Each and every one of us that took part that day really enjoyed ourselves and knowing we were helping such a great charity such as Birmingham Mind just made it so much more rewarding. To anyone who is thinking about volunteering, don’t hesitate as it is a great experience and we are already looking forward to our next one!
